Introduction

"A child without education is like a bird without wings"

Hi everyone!

I'm Pepi Martínez and I've created this blog with a didactic purpose: I want to share everything I'm learning concerning second language teaching. I have the degree of English Studies and now I'm doing a Master's Degree on Secondary Education.

First of all, I want to tell you a brief story of my life, the reasons why I decided to choose this profession and most importantly, the process that brought me to create this blog.

I have always wanted  to be a teacher, from the very first moment I started school I was sure that my dreamjob, no matter the salary or the subject (not Maths) was that of being an educator; it is true that I was a teenager at that time; nevertheless, I had clear that I was definitely going to be teaching people. When I started high school, I discovered how fascinating the English language was; I also liked Latin, Greek, Art, Spanish, and other subjects, however, I preferred to spend my time practicing my English, listening to English songs, watching American TV Shows and movies...

Then, the years went by and I chose the degree of English Studies at the University of Alicante. When I was about to finish my degree, I went on an Erasmus exchange program to Oxford (United Kingdom). I lived there for a year, studying and working, totally involved into the British atmosphere.I came back, and I realized that my English was better, I was passionate concerning English literature, British history and culture...however, I knew nothing on how to teach English to kids/teenagers. This is the reason why I decided to do an MA on Education. This blog is a vivid example of everything I'm learning during this educational process/ path. You'll realize that I have lots of things to learn and improve, which is why I encourage you to share your opinions here, I will be more than glad to read your comments!

As you can see, the name of this blog is 'The English Path'. The reason is obvious: the educational process is a path that everybody has to take; from the very first moment that we are born, we start learning how to talk, we listen to our parents and we learn from them. As we grow up, we go to school and we learn from our teachers, friends and family...We constantly receive influences from the people that surround us, and also from digital media and the society that we live in. The metaphor of the "path" alludes to the journey of learning, we walk into our lives watching things, deciding our future...and we can run fast or slow, we can give up school and stop walking. In addition, as we walk, we will find difficulties and obstacles, people that will help us to survive and we will always have the responsibility of choosing which way (the shortest or longest) to take so as to be happy with ourselves.
